Privacy Policy for Par: Golf Scorecard & Scores
Last updated: 2026-08-05
This privacy policy explains how Par: Golf Scorecard & Scores (the "App") handles your data. Par has no accounts and no login. Almost everything it does happens on your own device.
Your Rounds and Courses
The rounds, scores, players and courses you enter are stored on your device and, if you have iCloud enabled, synced through your own private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. We cannot see that data and it is not sent to our servers. Deleting the App removes the local copy; you control the iCloud copy through your Apple ID settings.
Camera
Par uses the camera for exactly two optional features that you start by tapping:
- Scanning a paper scorecard. The photo you capture is sent over an encrypted connection to our processing service, which passes it to a third-party AI model (Google Gemini) to read the handwriting. The image is processed to produce the scores and is not retained afterwards, and it is never used to train any model.
- Joining a live round. The camera reads a join code from another player's screen. Nothing from the camera leaves your device in this case.
Par never opens the camera on its own, and does not access your photo library except when you explicitly choose a photo to scan.
Live Co-scoring
When you host or join a live round, the App sends that round to a ScalingWebApps relay server so the other players' phones can read it. This is limited to what the round needs: the course name you typed, hole count, pars, the player names you entered, and the scores as they are entered.
- There is no account, sign-in, or device identifier attached to a live round.
- A live round is reachable only to someone who has the six-character code.
- Live rounds are automatically deleted 24 hours after the last score is entered. The permanent copy of the round stays on the players' own devices.
- If you never use live co-scoring, none of your scores ever reach our servers.
Analytics
Par uses Aptabase, a privacy-focused analytics service, to count anonymous usage events such as "a round was started" or "a paywall was shown". These events carry no name, email, device identifier, advertising identifier, or score data, and cannot be linked back to you. For Aptabase's practices, see https://aptabase.com/legal/privacy.
Subscriptions and Purchases
Subscription and in-app purchase processing is handled by Apple via the App Store and by RevenueCat, our subscription management provider. We receive anonymized purchase and subscription status information necessary to deliver the features you have paid for and to provide customer support. We do not see your full Apple ID or payment card details.
For Apple's privacy practices regarding App Store purchases, see https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.

Data the App Does NOT Collect
- We do not ask for your name, email address, or any account.
- We do not collect location data. Par has no GPS features.
- We do not use advertising networks, and the App contains no ad SDKs.
- We do not sell or share your data with third parties for marketing.
